The father, Kenneth was a welder and construction foreman. He was a challenging and hardworking person.

The Dallas Cowboys' ace used to work on the farm and haul hays in the field after his football practice because his father asked him to do so. His father never had a heart-to-heart conversation with his children and never showed affection toward them.

Kenneth and Charlyn eventually separated, and the children stayed with their mother after the divorce. Charlyn had a good and deep relationship with her son and daughters and was their support system in the family.

Charlyn was a gentle and kind-hearted woman who worked as the society editor for Henryetta Newspaper, The Daily Freelance before her passing at 80 on 10 November 2022.
