In 1997, John Daly was the first professional golfer to have crossed the 300 yards average when he managed 302.0 yards that season. John was the leader in the Tour from 1991-2002 for driving range 11 times and missed out once in 1994.

The average distance on the Tour was first recorded in 1980 and has since been in use. The player with the highest yards wins the 'Long Drive'.

The record for the highest driving distance in a season is 323.7 yards set in 2020 by Bryson DeChambeau. The previous record belonged to Hank Kuehne who averaged 321.4 in 2003.

Likewise, the average golf drive distance by age for 20-30 years is 238 yards, for 30-40 years is 231 yards, and for those above 60+ is 196 yards.

Rory McIlroy 2023 - 327.9

Northern Irish golfer Rory McIlroy tops the chart of PGA driving distance leaders in 2023 with an average of 327.9 for 64 drives. 

Wee-Mac has 23 PGA Tour wins, including PGA Championships twice, U.S. Open, and The Open Championship at one each. He is yet to win the Masters Tournament and had previously finished as runner-up in 2022.

Apart from his success in 2023, Rory was also the driving distance leader in PGA in 2017 and 2018 averaging 316.7 and 319.7 yards respectively.

McIlroy has also gone on to win two money list titles as of 2022, with 36 professional wins since turning professional in 2007. In the ongoing 2022-23 season, he has earned $6,834,758  and in the 10 events he competed in, he won the CJ Cup in October.

Cameron Champ 2022 - 321.40

Cameron Champ registered 321.40 average yards in the 2021-22 season. Texas golfer Champ is averaging 313 yards in the 2022-23 season.

Cameron has achieved two Top 10 finishes this season. Moreover, he is currently 10th in driving distance with an impressive 58.94% accuracy.

Champ has managed three PGA Tour wins in his career since turning pro in 2017 and has a long way to go given he is just 27 with a career-high ranking of 66 in 2021.

His best results in the Major Championships are T10 finishes in Masters Tournament and PGA Championship with a T32 finish in the U. S. Open.

Cameron is notable as one of the longest and most powerful hitters in the sport. Apart from his average of 317.10 yards in 2021, he was the leader in 2019 as well with 317.9 yards.

Bryson DeChambeau 2021 - 323.70

Bryson DeChambeau in the 2020-2021 season averaged 323.70 driving yards. DeChambeau won his first major tournament US Open in 2020.

Bryson is currently signed into the LIV Golf Tour and is no longer part of the PGA Tour or European Tour. However, with the recent merge of all three Tours, he will soon be returning to the PGA arena.

DeChambeau holds the record for the longest average driving yards distance with 323.70 by surpassing his own record of 322.1 yards in 2020.

Nicknamed Scientist, he has accumulated eight wins in the PGA Tour since turning Pro in 2016 and reached his highest career ranking 4 in 2021.

J.B. Holmes 2016 - 314.5

In 2016, J.B. Holmes averaged 314.5 driving yards to be the leader that season. Holmes has 5 PGA Tour wins since turning professional in 2005.

He has registered 8 total professional wins in his career with a highest ranking of 12 in 2015. He is yet to win a Major Championship in his career.

The 41-year-old is still very much active in the game and has competed in 8 events this season but has not made it to the Top 10 as of yet.

Holmes has managed to average 298.0 driving yards in the ongoing 2022-23 season with 48.44% accuracy, whilst earning $58,884 Tour money.

Dustin Johnson 2015 - 317.7

Former world number 1 golfer Dustin Johnson averaged 317.7 driving yards in 2015. Dustin led the overall driving leader chart that year.

The 38-year-old has 24 PGA Tour wins and 2 Major Championship wins; Masters Tournament and U.S. Open before making a move to LIV Golf.

Bubba Watson 2014 - 314.3

Bubba averaged 314.3 driving yards in 2014. Watson has moved to LIV Golf and surrendered his PGA Tour membership after last playing in 2020.

With the highest ranking of 14, Bubba has registered 12 PGA Tour wins, and 2 Masters Championships to his name since turning Pro in 2002.

Bubba Watson also recorded the highest average driving yards in 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2012 with 319.67, 315.2, 315.1, and 315.5 respectively.

Luke List 2013 - 306.3

Luke List recorded an average of 306.3 driving yards and finished the season as the leader in 2013. Luke turned professional in 2007.

Since then has managed only 1 PGA Tour win, the 2022 Farmers Insurance Open. He achieved his highest ranking of 45 on July 22, 2018.

Robert Garrigus 2010 - 315.5

Robert Garrigus with 315.5 yards was the season leader in 2010. Moreover, his average of 312.0 yards in 2009 was also the highest for the year.

His solo PGA Tour win came at the Children's Miracle Network Classic tournament in 2010, where he triumphed over runner-up Roland Thatcher.

Garrigus has become notable as one of the longest drivers in the game. He is among the players who can hit a drive well over 350 yards.

Robert has competed in 7 events this season and missed the cuts for all the events with an average distance of 299.0 yards and 56.91% accuracy.

Scott Hend 2005 - 318.9

Scott Hend with an average drive of 318.9 in 2005 was the season leader. Australian golfer Scott was the first foreign player to achieve the feat.

Hend has had 15 professional wins since he turned Pro in 1997. He has managed three wins on the European Tour, and none on the PGA arena.

The 50-year-old Scott is not a member of the PGA Tour anymore as he is currently playing in the Asian Tour and PGA Tour of Australasia.

Hank Kuehne 2004 - 314.4

Hank Kuehne averaged 314.4 driving yards in 2004 and 321.4 in 2003. Kuehne became the successive winner of the 'Long Drive' statistic.

Hank is a former U.S. Amateur champion and has managed 4 professional wins in his career, including two Canadian Tour triumphs in 2002.

Since turning professional in 1999, Kuehne has been unable to register any PGA Tour wins or any of the Major Championships in his golf career.
