The US soccer coaching staff includes Gregg Berhalter, and assistant coaches B.J. Callaghan, Darcy Norman, Josh Wolff, and Rick Coast. 

Gregg Berhalter was re-appointed as USMNT head coach on June 16, 2023. Berhalter previously led the US soccer team between 2018 and 2022.

With the 2023 Concacaf Gold Cup starting this weekend, USMNT will be looking for the eighth title. The United States will play against Jamaica in the first group stage match on June 24.

The USMNT is a member of Group A along with Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, and Saint Kitts and Nevis. The defending champions will look to start the tournament on a positive note and clinch the consecutive title.

USMNT Head Coach Gregg Berhalter

Gregg Berhalter is the current US Soccer head coach. Berhalter was first appointed for the role in 2018 and served as the head coach till 2022.

When his contract expired in 2022, the United States Soccer Federation hired temporary head coaches until rehiring Gregg on June 16, 2023.

According to an announcement from U.S. Soccer, Berhalter will continue to lead the Americans through the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

He has previously worked as an assistant coach with the LA Galaxy and Columbus Crew SC in MLS and Hammarby IF in Allsvenskan League.

Gregg was appointed the head coach of Hammarby IF on December 12, 2011, after serving as the assistant coach of LA Galaxy for one season.

Berhalter returned as the USMNT manager in 2023.

The Columbus Crew hired him as their head coach and sporting director on November 6, 2013. Berhalter then got the main role with USMNT in 2018 and achieved his first win in a friendly match against Panama in 2019.

Gregg led the US to a 2-0 victory against Mexico in a World Cup qualifying match at TQL Stadium in Cincinnati, Ohio. The team qualified and advanced to the round of 16 at the FIFA World Cup 2022.

When Berhalter's contract expired in 2022, assistant Anthony Hudson became the temporary head coach. When Hudson left to take over as the head coach of Al-Markhiya SC in Qatar in May 2023, B.J. Callaghan replaced him. 

Berhalter Played For USMNT

Gregg received his first cap for the US national team on 15 October 1954 against Saudi Arabia. He later went on to earn 44 national caps.

Berhalter played college soccer at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He participated in the United Soccer League's Raleigh Flyers during the 1993 off-season of his college career.

Gregg signed a contract with Energie Cottbus of the German Bundesliga in 2002. He continued to play for the team, appearing in 111 league games and serving as captain as they won promotion back to the Bundesliga.

The first club deal he ever signed in his native country was with Los Angeles Galaxy. Berhalter was revealed as a LA player on April 3, 2009.

Josh Wolff began working under the tutelage of Berhalter in 2018. Wolff is currently the head coach of Austin FC in Major League Soccer.

Austin FC, an MLS expansion team that debuted with the 2021 season, hired Wolff as its first head coach on July 23, 2019. Under his guidance Austin FC had a 9–21–4 record, ranking  12th in the Western Conference, one point ahead of last-place Houston.

His second season in 2021 was successful as his club finished in second place in the Western Conference, earning a spot in their first MLS Cup Playoffs, scoring 30 more goals.

B.J. Callaghan is another notable name in the United States soccer camp. Callaghan also has experience of taking the interim head coach role.

B.J. worked with the Philadelphia Union through 2018 until joining the U.S. men's national team in January 2019 as an assistant coach and strategy analyst under Gregg Berhalter.

The US board announced on 30 May 2023 that Callaghan would take over for Anthony Hudson as temporary head coach of the national team. 

Steve Tashjian joined the USMNT camp after spending the previous five years with Columbus Crew SC, where he served as the club's High-Performance director under Berhalter.

Tashjian was tasked with continuing to create data-driven performance platforms for health and wellness, sports medicine, sport science, strength and conditioning, and recovery with Columbus.

Norman studied physical therapy at University of Washington.

Darcy Norman is the head of performance at the US Soccer Federation. Norman has 20 years of experience in the field of human performance.

His work over the past ten years has mostly concentrated on developing and putting into use processes, using data, and developing strategic relationships.

As per his LinkedIn, Darcy previously worked as a fitness/rehab trainer, and performance data analyst for the German national football team.

Norman also served as the Director of Performance at Italian club AS Roma from 2015 to 2018, where he supported the team reach the 2017-18 UEFA Champions League semifinals.

Matt Turner

Matt Turner is the main goalkeeper of the United States national team. Meanwhile, Turner plays for Arsenal F.C. in the English Premier League.

He made his USMNT debut against Trinidad & Tobago on January 31, 2021, in a friendly match. Matt has earned 28 national caps to date.

Turner was one of three players to appear in all 360 minutes of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar as he donned the primary goalkeeper duties.

DeAndre Yedlin 

DeAndre Yedlin was signed in by Inter Miami in 2022.

Veteran right-back DeAndre Yedlin made his debut against South Korea on Feb 1, 2014. Yedlin currently plays for Inter Miami in MLS.

In a friendly matchup against Chile in March 2019, Yedlin served as a captain. Furthermore, he was the only American participant in both the 2014 and 2022 FIFA World Cups. 

Cristian Roldan

The 28-year-old Cristian Roldan plays midfielder for the Major League Soccer club Seattle Sounders FC and the United States national team. 

Berhalter selected Roldan despite his minimal playing time during the previous World Cup qualifying campaign due to his leadership qualities in training and versatility.

Jordan Morris

Jordan Morris made his national team debut in November 2014 against Ireland. Morris currently plays for Seattle Sounders FC in the MLS.

Morris scored the game-winning goal in the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup Final for the United States, defeating Jamaica. En route to earning 52 national caps with the USMNT, Jordan has scored 11 goals so far.
