NBA Summer League Coaches are Quin Snyder, Tony Dobbins, Trevor Hendry, Ben Sullivan, and others. It is an off-season contest organized by NBA.

The NBA teams usually play with their new rosters including G league affiliate players, sophomore, and rookie players during this competition.

Unlike official NBA games, the Summer League only lasts for 40 minutes, with Portland Trail Blazers being the defending champions. Many unsigned free agents are tested in the summer league for the possibility of signing them in the regular season. 

In the 2023 season, six teams are said to compete for two days from July 3-5 at the Sacramento venue downtown. Sacramento will be hosting the league for the fourth time.

Who Coaches NBA Summer League?

Assistant coaches usually take on the coaching role in the NBA Summer League. Quin Snyder will be leading the Atlanta Hawks team this July.

Ryan Bowen 

Ryan Bowen is the assistant coach of the 2023 NBA champion Denver Nuggets. Bowen joined Nuggets in 1999 and played for five seasons.

The former power forward was hired by the Nuggets for the assistant coach role in 2011. Bowen also coached his team in the Summer League.

Before, fully committing to the Nuggets, Ryan also worked as an assistant coach and assistant director of players with the Sacramento Kings. 

Jama Mahalalela

Jama Mahalelela is the assistant coach of the Golden State Warriors. Mahalalela has previously served as the head coach of Raptors 905. 

During his time with GSW, they were able to secure the title after the beating Boston Celtics in 2022. It is said, that Mahlalela would return to Toronto Raptors as Darko Rajakovic's top coach. His duties are likely to be replaced by Jacob Rubin.

Phil Handy

Handy was a college basketball player during his younger days. He also played professionally overseas and at Golden State, before kickstarting his coaching career. 

Currently, Phil is the assistant coach and player development trainer of the Lakers. Moreover, Handy has reached six consecutive NBA finals. 

Phil won four championships from 2015-2018 with Cleveland Cavaliers. He also won one with Toronto Raptors and another one with LA Lakers. 

Vin Baker

Vin Baker serves as an assistant coach of the Milwaukee Bucks from 2018-present. He has significant achievements as an NBA player with a four-time NBA All-Star record. 

Baker also has a title championship as an assistant coach for Milwaukee Bucks in 2021. Before, winning a title as a coach, he was on a team with Dennis Rodman as part of "basketball diplomacy" to North Korea. 

Baker shall lead the 2023 NBA summer league, the roster shall include players like Hugo Besson, MarJon Beauchamp, Tyler Cook, and others. 

Dice Yoshimoto

Dice Yoshimoto is an assistant coach of the New York Knicks. He studied at Johnson & Wales University and majored in Sports, Event, and Entertainment Management. 

Yoshimoto has worked under Tom Thibodeau in his current tenure with the NY Knicks. Dice has also followed Tom throughout his career.

Dice Yoshimoto will be leading the Knicks' roster in July.

Before joining NY Knicks, Dice was in Chicago Bulls and Minnesota Timberwolves alongside Tom. Both of them joined the Knicks team in 2020.

Malik Allen

Malik Allen is a current Miami Heat assistant coach. Allen will be leading the Heats in the Summer League in the absence of Erik Spoelstra.

Allen began his career with San Diego Wildfire in ABA. He later became an NBA athlete playing for Heat, Bulls, and Mavericks, and Nuggets.

Malik began his coaching career as an assistant coach for Detroit Pistons in 2014. Later, he accepted the position of assistant coach for Miami and has been an important figure in the team. 

Ronald Nored

Ronald Nored is the current coach of the Atlanta Hawks. Noret was also a former point guard for Butler University's basketball team. 

He also served as a coach for Butler University, Brownsburg HS, South Alabama Jaguars, Main Red Claws, and Northern Kentucky University. 

Roland was hired by Brooklyn Nets to serve as a head coach for Long Island Nets in 2016. Later, he joined Atlanta Hawks after they offered him an assistant position. 

NBA Summer League Salary

The salary for NBA Summer League players is $1500 for the duration of the competition. They are also provided accommodation and travel.

Moreover, it is an encouragement to keep the players in shape and participate in training. It might pale in comparison to the highest-paid NBA players but they shall receive remuneration for hard work.

On the other hand, the head coaches of the NBA summer league teams are likely to be paid according to their contractual arrangements.

NBA Summer League Player Salary

Summer League NBA players are paid around $136 per day. Most of them are either high schoolers or college players thus it is an opportunity to make it into NBA.
