After years of struggle, Lia finally chose to continue eating her favorite food.

After their encounter in the 1940s, Martha and Edwards Sr. married in 1953 and returned to the United States. A year later, when Herm was born, his dad was stationed in Fort Monmouth, N.J.
When the family was back in Germany in 1958, his younger sister Irvina was born.
In a May 2018 tweet, Herm channeled his late father's last words and honored his mother, who was suffering from Alzheimer's. He also talked about his family's struggles during the Civil Rights Movement.
