Boozer publicly declared the termination of his professional basketball career on December 18, 2017.

After withdrawing from Duke his junior year to pursue a professional basketball career, Boozer was only three classes short of completing his degree. 

In 2020, he finally graduated from Duke and had his graduation ceremony two years later, on May 8, 2022, delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Despite being born at a military base in Aschaffenburg, West Germany, Boozer's upbringing took place in Juneau, Alaska, where his mom and dad Carlos and Renee, worked arduously in two jobs to support their family of five children.

However, the two-time NBA All-Star filed for divorce on November 23, 2021. Smith responded nine months later, and the divorce was finalized in October of the following year. 

Despite their split, it was reported that the divorce was amicable, and they would share custody of their daughter.

Boozer's second wife, Aneshka Smith, is a yogi and designer; she launched Knature, a fashion label that produces jewelry and handbags.

Carmani underwent a 40-day hospitalization at Miami Children's Hospital. The last 30 days were spent recuperating from the bone marrow transplant and chemotherapy procedures to eradicate his sickle cell anemia, per the Washington Post

In 2007, Carmani was discharged from the hospital after receiving a bone marrow transplant to alleviate his sickle cell disease. Shortly after, Boozer departed from his family to join the Utah Jazz.
