Jael is a former student-athlete at Purdue University. She won the Indiana Volleyball Player of the Year Award in 2018.
She also won the Northern Lights Qualifier (NLQ) and Under Amour All-America Watch List for 2017. As a junior, she was named to the state's first team and got the college Volleyball Club All-top American's honorable mention.
Johnson participated in 23 games for Purdue during her freshman season in 2018, and she had a season-high six blocks against Wisconsin. She made 21 appearances with one start and 53 total sets as a sophomore in 2019. She set a career-high with seven total blocks in the NCAA Second Round matchup.
