As he was interested in sports his mom and dad sent him to professional instruction. He participated in a tennis camp conducted by the famous Harry Hopman, who was impressed by his dedication.

Jim trained with Hopman for two years before winning the 14-and-under Orange Bowl, the junior tennis equivalent of the World Series.

With the help of his mom and dad, he has become a well-known tennis player. He improved his abilities and won the Orange Bowl in 1987 at 16 under Bollettieri's guidance.

He also won the junior doubles championship at the French Open in 1987.
