Solheim Cup Scoring System And Rules
The Solheim Cup 2023 scoring system is different from everyday golf and follows the same rules that are used for the Ryder Cup.
The team that is defending champion entering a Solheim Cup must win 14 of the 28 points to retain the Cup. The other team must win 14.5 points to take the Cup.
The rules for the Solheim Cup 2023 are two days of doubles match play using foursomes and fourballs which is followed by a final day of singles match play. It is a 3-day match between teams of professional women golfers representing the United States and Europe.
Each win is worth one point and there are 28 matches, meaning the first team to reach 14.5 points wins the tournament.
A total of 28 points are at stake over those three days which are classified as below:
- Day 1: 4 Foursomes in the morning and 4 Fourballs in the afternoon
- Day 2: 4 Foursomes in the morning and 4 Fourballs in the afternoon
- Day 3: Singles - 12 matches (All players must play) and 12 points at stake.
Foursomes is also known as alternate shot where 2 golfers play as partners but they use only one golf ball and play alternate strokes.
In the Fourball matches two golfers from each team play together against the other team with each player playing their own ball. Not only that but the lower of the partners' scores counts as the teams score on each hole.
