The Swedish star has also led his country to the title of the 2018 IIHF World Championship and the 2012 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships. Rising to the occasion, he scored in both finals, including the golden goal in the 2012 triumph.

After a series of splendid performances, including his 7th career hat trick, Zibby signed an eight-year contract extension with the Rangers in late October 2021.

Mika Zibanejad Wife

The Rangers striker Mika and Irma have known each other for 12 years. The couple met for the first time in 2010.

In the early days when Zibanejad used to play hockey in Djurgården, Irma played football there. They even went to high school together and ended up in the same class during French lessons. It all started from there for the lovely couple.

Despite knowing each other for eternity, it wasn't until late August 2020 that Mika finally proposed to Irma with a beautiful ring. Helin shared the news via Instagram with the caption, "The most obvious YES I ever said! I love you!!"

A year after the engagement, the NHL star tied the knot with his beloved partner in his hometown. He exchanged vows to be together forever with Irma in front of close friends and family members.

The bride graced the special occasion with an exquisite gown, whereas Zibby donned the blue-colored gentleman's suit.

Mika Zibanejad Parents

Mika Zibanejad parents Mehrdad Zibanejad and Ritva Zibanjad are from different countries. Mehrdad is originally from Iran whereas Ritva is from Poland.

The current alternate captain for the New York Rangers was born to Mehrdad and Ritva on 18 April 1993 in Huddinge, Sweden. Mika initially played football in his childhood before switching to hockey at Hammarby IF.

Zibby credits his dad and mom's enormous support and sacrifices for whatever he has achieved in his life to date.

Mehrdad Zibanejad Left Iran in 1983

Mika considers his dad Mehrdad Zibanejad his idol. As seen on his Instagram posts, he always shares dad's photos on occasions such as Father's Day and June 18 (his birthday).

The NHL star knows his roots, has seen various aspects of life, and has learned a lot from his beloved father.

Although Mehrdad grew up in Iran, he left the country for better opportunities. The primary issue was that he disagreed with radical Islam and was detained once for writing an article on existentialism.

He was a Christian and read the Bible, but the fact that he was not allowed religious freedom bothered him the most. He served two years of mandatory military service in the Iran–Iraq War before finally leaving the country in December 1983.

Afterward, Mehrdad landed in Sweden, where he started living and raising his family. Mika's baba enjoyed life there as he later worked as an IT engineer with the Swedish government.

Ritva Zibanejad is From Finland

Mika Zibanejad's mother Ritva Zibanjad is Finnish by birth. She was born in Paltamo, Finland. Mrs. Zibenajad was a nurse by profession.

It was around 1979 when she left for summer work in the healthcare field in Sweden. Although Ritva did not intend to stay long in Sweden, her plans changed when she met Mehrdad.

Mika's mother used to speak Finnish with him during his childhood. This is why Mika speaks Finnish fluently alongside Persian, English and Swedish.

Ritva was there to cheer for her son in 2012 when young Zibanejad scored the golden goal to lead Sweden to the World Junior Ice Hockey Championship.

Ritva likes to call herself a 'hockey mom' as she watches most of Mika's games on television or in the rink.

Mika Zibanejad Siblings

Mika Zibanejad has a maternal half-brother named Monir Kalgoum. Monir played for Sweden at the 2004 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships.
