Julio was born in Culiacán, Sinaloa, to Carlos and Juana Isabel on August 12, 1996. He played with the Mexico national youth team in his early teens and was discovered by the Dodgers when he was 15.

They signed him on his 16th birthday, while the young lad made his professional debut on May 25, 2013. He played with the Great Lakes Loons in the Midwest League back then.

Luis Urias Childhood

Luis Urias spent most of his childhood in his hometown of Magdalena de Kino, playing baseball with his elder brother. The two were heavily influenced by the former MLB catcher Sergio Robles.

Robles was born in the Urias brothers' hometown and is regarded as a living legend in Mexico.  He is nicknamed Kaliman, a Mexican superhero who inspired the Sonora residents to build his statue outside Estadio Padre Kino, a baseball stadium.

Luis and Ramon Jr. grew up admiring Robles in their small town, which mainly loves baseball. The elder Urias was a big help to Luis as he taught him the ways into the sport.

Hence, Luis became the second player from Magdalena to reach the Major League after Robles in 2018.
