The American hurdler and bobsledder had a rough childhood. While growing up, Jones and her family settled in the basement of a Des Moines Salvation Army Church.

Despite all the struggle, Jones was an honor student in high school, earning a track scholarship at LSU. She won three NCAA championships and was an All-American at LSU.

Further, Lolo earned a gold medal in the mixed team competition at the 2013 World Championships and represented the United States in the 2014 Winter Olympics.

Aside from the Olympics, Jones has been on several reality TV series, including Celebrity Big Brother, Dancing with the Stars, and The Challenge.

Lolo Jones Was Raised In Des Moines

Lolo Jones was born to mother Lori Jones and father James Jones Sr in Des Moines Iowa.

Lori and James had five kids and were together for twenty years.

Conversely, Lolo and her brothers were raised by a single mother, and her childhood was rough.

Jones has described her mom Lori as a hardworking woman who often worked two jobs to support her family of six.

In addition, while Lolo was in third grade, her family moved into the basement of a Salvation Army chapel in Des Moines.

During the summer, when the church provided day camps, Jones spent much of her time in the basement to avoid being mocked by other children.

On the other hand, her father James Jones Sr. was in the air force and had served in the Korean War.

However, upon his return, he was subjected to systemic prejudice and spent half of his life in prison. During the 1950s and 1960s, he lived in segregated areas.

One of the photographs on her Facebook page shows her mother, Lori, visiting James in the cell.

Similarly, HBO aired an edition of Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel with the tale of Lolo. It was stated that her father taught her how to shoplift and she'd take TV dinners from grocery shops so she and her siblings could eat.

She once had an interview with Bryant Gumbel on HBO Real Sports. Jones claimed she had been teased her whole life because of her prohibition on having premarital lovemaking.
