Steven Stamkos's parents are his biggest fans, both on-ice and off-ice. They ignited his love for hockey at a young age.

Stamkos is a professional ice hockey player from Canada. He plays for the Tampa Bay Lightning of the National Hockey League (NHL), where he also serves as the captain of the team. He joined the Tampa Bay in 2008 after being selected first in the overall NHL draft of that year. Eventually, he became the captain of the team in 2013.

Today, his popularity expands across and beyond the American continent. He is one of the most successful present-day NHL. As a result, fans' news outlets and paparazzi are heavily invested in his personal life. Though pubically reserved, Steven has always been a family man. He selflessly credits his parents and family as the prime reason behind his success and every good game.

Meet Steven Stamkos Father Chris Stamkos and Mother Lesley Stamkos

Originally from Markham, Ontario, Canada, Steven shares a diverse ancestry. The hockey player inherits Macedonian and Scottish DNA from his parents.

Steven Stamkos's parents are named Chris Stamkos and Lesley Stamkos. Father Chris and mother Lesley gave birth to Steven on February 7, 1990. Likewise, Steven also has a sister named Sarah Stamkos. The siblings are also very close with each other.

Steven developed a keen interest in sports from an early age, thanks to his father Chris. Interestingly, Chirs started crafting his son's career when he was 2 years old. In the same manner, Steven was a prodigy and became hooked on the game. He would reportedly stake in the dining room when the outdoor rinks were unavailable for him to play.

In addition, Chris and Lesley also encouraged him to play other sports such as soccer, golf, and baseball. But, they couldn't deny their son's talent and always pointed him toward ice hockey. Eventually, the parents encouraged Steven to play for Markham Waxers in the Ontario Minor Hockey Association (OMHA).

Likewise, Steven completed his education in the Central Park Public School and St. Brother André Catholic High School. In 2008, Tampa Bay officially approached the young talent to join the team. His parents were as much involved in his NHL drafting process as Steven.

Both Steven and his parents gear up for the Stanley Cup

Similar to his son, Chris used to be a hockey player. In 1988, he even played for "All Macedonian stars" in Macedonia. The team reportedly consisted of several Macedonians. Furthermore, the game's primary goal was to promote the ice game among the Macedonian citizens.

Today, his son has marked himself as an NHL star. Steven has won the title of NHL-All star games seven times and he is twice NHL's leading goal-scorer. In 2022 recently, he won the Prince of Wales Trophy champion.

Besides, he is also the pride of Canada. In 2016, he was among the Canadian team which won the World Cup of Hockey in Toronto.

Steven is waiting for his third win on the line with two consecutive Stanely Cup wins. Despite the hurdles from COVID-19, he brought the cup in 2020 and 2021. Now, he is the captain for the 2022 Stanely Cup Finals.

Yet, he doesn't credit the success to himself. He mentions the blessings from his parents and family, who always support him among the audience, as the reason behind his luck.  Likewise, Steven reportedly also shares his net worth of USD 14 million with his loved ones. His salary alone with Tampa Bay equates to around USD 8 million. Thus, they live a very luxurious life in Canada with fancy cars, vacations, and houses.

On the other hand, the hockey star is protective of his family. He tires enough to keep them away from the constant camera and paparazzi flashes.

He is proud of his Macedonian heritage

Stamkos is very proud of his Macedonian heritage.

Steven Stamkos's father, Chris Stamkos, aka Hristo Stamkov, is from Banica village near Lerin. Chris's father was the one to move to Canada with the family. In 2008, he became the first person of Macedonian ethnicity to be drafted as the first choice in the NHL. American hockey legend Ed Jovanovski previously held the record.

In addition, he bonded with another Macedonian hockey player, Mike Angelidis, when they used to play for the Tampa Bay together. Similar to Stamkos, Mike's parents are originally from somewhere in northern Greece.

Furthermore, Steven is involved with the Macedonian community outside Canada. Notably, he has visited the Macedonian delegation of Canada and attended meetings with the community. From culture and economy to sports - Stamkos is enthusiastic about every part of Macedonian life. After the meeting, one of the delegates even described the player as "direct, witty, and unpretentious."

Moreover, Stamkos mentions his favorite food as the Macedonian pie. His grandmother should specifically make the pie.

Thus, with his list of hockey achievements, the Macedonians don't shy away from claiming him as their own. They are even cheering for the athlete as he heads towards the Stanely Cup Finals scheduled to begin on July 15, 2022.
