Carolyn Peck met her husband James O’Brien while she was at Vanderbilt University. Carolyn and James walked down the aisle in May 2014.

Peck is best known for taking over the WNBA as the first African American woman coach to lead her team to the women's Division I basketball national championship team.

She won the 1999 NCAA Women's Basketball Championship with the Purdue Boilermakers. She was also Associated Press's Women's Basketball Coach of the Year that year. 

Carolyn also became the first woman and the first African American to win the Winged Foot Award. The award honors the best coach in college basketball.

She is also the first head coach-general manager in WNBA's history. Besides Purdue, she coached at Vanderbilt University and the University of Florida.

After a successful stint in coaching, Peck currently works as an analyst for ESPN and SEC Network. 

Inside Carolyn Peck Married Life

Carolyn Peck and her husband James O’Brien married on May 17, 2014. The couple praised their eighth commemoration in 2022.

Vanderbilt Commodores in September 2013 gave complete insight into the two's engagement.

James, aka Jimmy, visited Nashville to meet his then-girlfriend Peck on the first weekend. Peck was one of the seven people inducted into Vanderbilt’s Athletic Hall of Fame later that evening.

The couple roamed around Music City and the campus for the day. They had lunch at San Antonio Taco Company and stopped by Memorial Gymnasium.

There, the Gainesville native popped the question and asked Peck to marry him and she said yes. O’Brien had planned to propose for five months, and it happened regardless of the big evening later.

Hence, he had scheduled many trips to keep Peck from guessing the moment. The two got hitched a year later in front of their close friends and family.

Carolyn also stood by him in 2015 during his graduation. She shared his picture with a graduation cap and balloons of that day on Twitter.

Carolyn Peck and James never had children despite being together for nine years.

However, they are happy to be around their 41 nieces and nephews as of 2020. Jimmy loves all of them, just like his own kids. Peck's Facebook post revealed that he acts as a mentor for them.

Carolyn Peck was born to parents Stephen C Peck and Arlene Peck. She maintains a close bond with both her mom and dad.

Stephen and Arlene have been married for 63 years. They celebrate their wedding anniversary on July 13 every year.

The VU alum does not forget to wish her dad on Father's Day and talks bout his importance in her life.

Likewise, she was named after her mother since her middle name is also Arlene. Carolyn's mother graduated from Ullman High School and later attended Stillman College to study sociology.

She also obtained her degree in Special education from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Mrs. Peck worked as a former instructor at Carson-Newman University.

Before her retirement, she was a notable former Special Education Teacher at Jefferson County Schools.

A Glance At Carolyn Peck Siblings

Carolyn Peck has two brothers, Stephen II and Michael. She is the middle child and the only daughter of Stephen and Arlene.

The three make up the five members of the Jefferson City Pecks. Both the Peck sons have officially become fathers, adding more members to the Peck clan.

The eldest child Stephen Clark Peck II was born on August 3. He was named after his father; hence, he is called "Double Single" by his mom.

Arlene also named him one of the greatest philosophers and counselors. Stephen II, aka Dr. P, also has some great culinary skills.

He is a devout Christian and inspires others to follow the way of life. He is married to his wife Seana, with whom he has three kids, Sarah, Stephen III, and Alexander.

His three children often go out on the beach in their Nashville home and also make time to visit their Nana and Papa. 

Michael Peck Is The Younger Brother

Michael celebrates his birthday on August 1 every year. He has been married to Rachel Marzouca-Peck for two decades now.

The couple celebrates their wedding anniversary on July 31. He has lived in Charlotte, North Carolina, since 2014.

Michael played basketball during his time at Marshall University. Peck junior previously worked as a former Corporate Sales Director at Zimmer Biomet.

He has worked with Roche Diagnostics USA since 2016. He is a former Strategic Account Manager and System Specialist for the company.

Michael currently works for GenMark Dx, a Roche Company.

He, too, has three kids, Carly, Cody, and Colin.

The Peck Family Members In Athletics

Carolyn Peck has many family members who have somehow been involved in sports.

Her eldest niece Carly is an outside and right-side hitter for the UNC Volleyball team. She is currently in her senior year and celebrated her 21st birthday on May 11, 2022.

Carly will be graduating in May 2023. She is also studying comparative literature with film studies and a minor in geography.

She is a member of the National Honor Society.

Besides her athletic career, she scored in the top 10 percent on the German National Exam. Her Instagram showcases her adventures in nature apart from her college and games.

Meanwhile, Carolyn's four nephews and a niece are still school-going children. Cody and Colin are training as basketball players at Slay Basketball Training center by Tamar Slay.

Her nephew Stephen III has committed to playing lacrosse at Otterbein University since January 2023.

However, Carolyn's cousin Mark Dean has significantly contributed to the computer engineering field. He holds three out of nine patents for IBM’s personal computers.

He was the chief engineer that looked at the progress of the 1981 IBM PC. He spent three decades at IBM and served as its vice president for the research division.

Dean won the Black Engineer of the Year in 1997 and 2000. He is an inductee of the National Inventors Hall of Fame as of 1997. He is a 1979 graduate of the University of Tennessee in electrical engineering. 

Meanwhile, Mark obtained his master’s degree from Florida Atlantic University and a doctorate from Stanford University in 1992.

Mark now serves as a professor at the Tickle College of Engineering. Carolyn openly shared her happiness for his accomplishments in a 2021 Facebook post.
